📰 News we're reading

1. Scottsdale Schools Violated Open Meeting Law, But County Attorney Says It's Too Late To Act (azfreenews.com) — Scottsdale Unified's committee that drafted school closure and consolidation options violated Arizona's Open Meeting Law by barring the public, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, but officials say it's now too late to undo the work. The board did not disclose those findings at a special meeting where residents spoke for hours, ahead of an October 6 vote expected to decide which Scottsdale schools will close.

2. Two Numbers Moved in September. Only One of Them Helps Sellers. (yourvalley.net) — Scottsdale's housing market quietly strengthened in September, with the Cromford Market Index rising 6% even as most Valley cities cooled, giving local sellers the least competition in two years. But rising mortgage rates near 7% could thin the buyer pool, so the piece urges Scottsdale homeowners to list sooner, price credibly, and pre-inspect to keep cautious buyers from walking away.

3. Here are 3 East Valley projects you should know about (azcentral.com) — A major high-tech research and development campus is planned near Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road, where Dutch semiconductor firm ASM will build offices, labs, and a parking garage between new apartments and a Banner Health facility. The project's completion date isn't set yet, but it signals more high-wage tech investment and jobs coming directly to the Scottsdale area.

4. Desert Mountain football coach explains forfeit vs. Arizona College Prep (azcentral.com) — Scottsdale Desert Mountain High School's football team has forfeited its Sept. 4 win over Chandler Arizona College Prep after self-reporting that a freshman exceeded the AIA quarter limit. Coach Conrad Hamilton accepted responsibility and says the Wolves, defending 5A champions, will use the setback as motivation as they continue a dominant season and push for another title run.

5. Gas prices in Arizona up 3% from last week (azfamily.com) — Drivers in Scottsdale are paying the highest average gas prices in Arizona at $5.02 per gallon, above the statewide average of $4.82. Prices are up about 3% from last week and more than a dollar from last year, so budgeting for commuting, errands, and fall travel around town may feel noticeably tighter right now.
