📰 News we're reading

• Scottsdale double shooting leaves man, woman critically injured, police say (fox10phoenix.com) — A man and woman were critically injured in a double shooting Friday night near McDowell and Pima roads in Scottsdale, with police describing it as an aggravated assault and attempted suicide. Both were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and authorities have not yet released their names or ages. The story also highlights how to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

• Psychologist says 'contagion effect' may explain recent Phoenix area murder-suicides (azfamily.com) — A man and woman died after a suspected murder-suicide near Pima and McDowell roads in Scottsdale, the third similar case in the Valley in a month. A forensic psychologist warns that a "contagion effect" may be contributing to these clustered incidents, especially among older adults. Experts urge open conversations about mental health and remind residents they can call or text 988 for help.

• Maricopa County tax bills are late, but you have time to pay (sacbee.com) — Scottsdale property owners should know Maricopa County's 2026 property tax bills are arriving late, but there's no penalty as long as payment is made by 5 p.m. Nov. 2. The county slightly lowered the primary property tax rate, and bills plus payment options are already available online, by mail, or in person.
