Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Scottsdale Civil War Roundtable will host
Roseann Bacha-Garza, whose presentation is entitled “The Civil War on the Rio Grande.” Ms. Bacha-Garza is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Public Heritage as well as the Projects Director of the Community Historical Archaeology Project at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The author of two books on the Civil War in the Rio Grande Valley, she was a 2020 nominee for the University of Texas Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award and was a 2021 nominee for Texan of the
Year by the Dallas Morning News.
Ms. Bacha-Garza will highlight the region’s significance during the Civil War, including its role in the Confederate cotton trade and the social histories of its inhabitants. The development of the Rio Grande Valley Civil War Trail project will be discussed and its importance in relation to the Texas borderlands and US Civil War history.
The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Copper Auditorium located on the lower level of the Civic Center branch of the Scottsdale Public Library, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd., Scottsdale. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and provide an opportunity to meet the speaker, browse our book sale, and view Civil War videos. Parking is free at the adjacent sub-level covered parking garage accessible off northbound Drinkwater Blvd. The public is welcome, free of charge, to attend the monthly meeting of the
