• Arizona 'grumpy' judge reprimanded for violating code of conduct (12news.com) — A Surprise Justice of the Peace has been publicly reprimanded after Arizona’s judicial conduct commission found he used rude and demeaning language toward people in his courtroom last fall. The judge, who cited illness and called himself “grumpy,” apologized, faces no further penalties, and is not expected to seek another term when his position is on the ballot in November. 
• New Multifamily Planned for Village at Prasada (azbex.com) — A major new apartment community is planned inside the Village at Prasada retail hub at Loop 303 and Waddell in Surprise, bringing 252 units and new amenities like a pool, dog park, and fitness center. The Wolff Company’s Halogen Prasada project is expected to start construction later this year, with first residents anticipated in 2028.
• Bodycam Captures Terrifying Standoff With Knife-Wielding Man in Surprise (hoodline.com) — Body-camera video shows Surprise police confronting an armed, reportedly suicidal man near Cactus Road and 151st Avenue in December, ending with officers shooting and critically injuring him after less-lethal rounds failed. An outside West Valley team led by Goodyear police is investigating, and Surprise authorities say there’s no ongoing threat while asking residents with any video or information to contact investigators.
