Supporters say approval keeps projects efficient and funds $64 million in city sustainability efforts, while opponents worry about the long contract length and want more public power options.
2. Member Of Murderous Tucson Gang Sentenced For RICO Conspiracy (arizonadailyindependent.com) — A Tucson gang member has been sentenced to nearly 28 years in federal prison for racketeering tied to the Western Hills Bloods, capping a decade-long case against the violent group. Prosecutors say the gang committed murders, drug trafficking, and intimidation in Tucson, including a killing near Tucson International Airport, and emphasize that law enforcement will continue targeting violent offenders in the city.
3. And many more: La Rosa to celebrate first year in Tucson (tucsonweekly.com) — La Rosa, the midtown music venue in Tucson's former Benedictine chapel, is celebrating its first birthday with a community-focused party on Oct. 9. Expect local bands, venue tours, raffles, cake, and remarks from Mayor Regina Romero, all for a $10 donation supporting the La Rosa Foundation.
4. City Week: Week of Oct. 8, 2026 (tucsonweekly.com) — Tucson residents have a full slate of cultural outings this week, from tours of the UA's Mirror Lab and miniatures at the Mini Time Machine Museum to the 22nd Annual Tucson Film Festival downtown. La Rosa's first birthday bash, a Clinica Amistad fundraising gala, an L7 concert, and shows at Fox Tucson Theatre and UA's Marroney Theatre round out the options.

Arizona Triathlon Core Returns Stronger, Eyes Third Straight Title (kgun9.com) — Tucson readers can cheer on the University of Arizona triathlon team as it chases a third straight national title, with its championship core returning stronger than ever. The Wildcats are hosting Arizona State in the Cactus Collegiate Cup this Saturday, offering a rare home-style atmosphere before heading to Tempe next month for nationals.
