FC Tucson Goes Pro And The City Gets A Pro Soccer Team
The move was expected after the team was purchased in October by Phoenix Rising. Tucson will start in the new league in 2019.

TUCSON, AZ – Soccer's getting bigger in Tucson. FC Tucson is joining the USL's newly created West Coast Conference, Division III.
The league will start playing in 2019.
The team, which was bought by USL's Phoenix Rising in October, had been playing in the semi-pro Premier Development League.

Major League Soccer is Division 1. USL is Division 2 and feeds players to the MSL. The new division will feed up to the USL.
Since joining the PDL in 2012, the team has gone 53-15-18 and won their division every year from 2014 through 2017.

"We're on the front lines of the growth of professional soccer in the U.S.," sats Dr. Mark Leber, one of Tucson's owners. "We see tremendous potential for professional soccer in Tucson.
"The city has proven time and again, through its successful MLS Preseason tournament and support of FC Tucson in the PDL, that there is an appetite for professional soccer in the market."
FC Tucson has hosted an MLS Preseason event, the Mobile Mini Sun Cup, since 2011, which regularly sells out.
This year's tournament, which got underway on Saturday, features 11 MLS clubs.
FC Tucson is the second team in the new league, joining South Georgia Tormenta FC, which is based in Statesboro, Georgia.
