1. Tucson completes major expansion to treat forever chemicals (azpm.org) — Tucson has finished a major federally funded expansion at the Tucson Airport Remediation Project to better remove PFAS "forever chemicals" from local groundwater, protecting the city's diverse water portfolio. Tucson Water may eventually return this treated water to the drinking system, while state and federal officials highlight the project as a model amid shifting national PFAS regulations.
   

2. Col. Joseph V. Spitler Jr. (pagevalleynews.com) — A longtime Tucson resident, retired Army Col. Joseph V. Spitler Jr. is remembered for his military service, teaching at Pima Community College, and deep involvement in local hiking, church, and volunteer communities. A memorial service will be held October 17 at Southside Presbyterian Church on West 23rd Street, with donations requested for the church or Habitat for Humanity.
   

3. WinCo Foods could be headed to Tucson after property purchase (kgun9.com) — A large commercial property on East Broadway Boulevard has been purchased by WinCo Foods, strongly suggesting the discount grocer is eyeing its first Tucson store, though no plans are confirmed yet. The 11.59-acre site, already home to several restaurants, matches the size and layout of other WinCo locations and comes as the chain expands elsewhere in Arizona.
   

4. Armed man spotted near Tucson High (kold.com) — An armed man was reported near Tucson High on Friday afternoon, prompting a safety alert from the University of Arizona as the suspect walked north away from campus. Tucson police, Tucson Unified School District and UAPD are investigating, and authorities believe the man may have left the area while encouraging residents to stay alert and share any information or images.
   

5. Police release bodycam video of July shooting that wounded 9 in Downtown Tucson (tucsonsentinel.com) — Body camera footage from Tucson police officers responding to July's Downtown mass shooting has been released, offering new details on how quickly officers confronted the gunman who wounded nine people. Prosecutors and defense attorneys have agreed the case is complex, extending court deadlines as investigators review extensive medical records, video evidence and witness testimony tied to one of Southern Arizona's largest mass shootings.
