1. Deep Dive: Do Arizona ESAs really save the state money? (yumasun.com) — Yuma school leaders break down how Empowerment Scholarship Accounts really affect local district funding, explaining why money lost when students leave doesn't neatly translate into savings. Using Yuma and La Paz County numbers, they show how much each student draws from the state's General Fund and why claims that ESAs automatically save Arizona money are more complicated than they sound.

2. HSOY seeks community support after receiving nearly 30 animals (kyma.com) — Yuma's Humane Society of Yuma is urgently seeking fosters, adopters, and donations after taking in 28 animals—22 cats and six dogs—from a single home tied to a Yuma Police Department case. With the shelter already strained and its kitten NICU handling hundreds of neonates, even short-term fostering can free up kennels for the newest arrivals.

3. Yuma heat wave triggers race to protect people without A/C (azfamily.com) — Dangerous triple-digit heat is putting Yuma residents without air conditioning at serious risk, with more than 1,000 local homes lacking cooling and illnesses already reported. Crossroads Mission has opened a public cooling center and expanded outreach with water, ice, and wellness checks, while officials urge residents to hydrate, limit outdoor time, and find the nearest cooling site as the heat wave continues.

4. Who Is Jose Delgado? Record and UFC Career of Jean Silva's Opponent (newsobserver.com) — A Yuma native, featherweight Jose Miguel Delgado, is getting the biggest shot of his UFC career as he steps in to headline Noche UFC in Glendale this September. The 28-year-old, listed as fighting out of Phoenix's MMA Lab, brings a 12-2 record, a string of highlight-reel knockouts, and strong Yuma roots into the matchup against Jean Silva.

5. Arizona: Community Foundation of Yuma Grant Program 2026 (fundsforngos.org) — Nonprofits serving Yuma County residents can now apply for Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, due August 30, 2026. Eligible 501(c)(3)s, schools, municipalities, and tribal entities can seek support for operations, programs, capital needs, or capacity-building, but only one proposal per organization will be considered.
