• Atkins FD among Rural Community Grant recipients (kvom.com) — Atkins residents should know their Volunteer Fire Department just received a $15,000 Rural Community Grant to help pay for vital needs like equipment or other community projects. The award is part of more than $12.5 million shared among small Arkansas towns, aimed at improving safety and public facilities in communities like Atkins.
   

• Permit now required for use of certain WMAs (kvom.com) — If you head to Lake Atkins, Galla Creek or Rainey WMAs for hiking, birdwatching or camping, you’ll now need a $10.50 annual WMA/Lake Conservation Permit unless you already have a hunting or fishing license. The new rule, effective July 1, helps fund upkeep of these popular public lands across the region.
