1. 'Arkansas Women to Watch 2026: Words Become Matter' exhibit opens Oct. 15 at UAFS; Fort Smith artist's work on display (rivervalleydemocratgazette.com) — An art exhibition featuring Fort Smith artist K. Nelson Harper opens Oct. 15 at the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith's Don Lee Gallery on North Waldron Road, with a free public reception that evening. Running through Dec. 12, the "Arkansas Women to Watch 2026: Words Become Matter" show highlights three Arkansas women artists whose book-inspired works may lead to national recognition in Washington, D.C.
   

2. Fort Smith Board of Directors passes data center design ordinance (nwahomepage.com) — Fort Smith's Board of Directors has approved new design rules for any future data centers, including an 8-foot opaque fence and 500-foot setbacks from all property lines. While no projects are proposed yet, the ordinance lets the board tighten requirements later and was passed in a special Monday meeting so leaders can attend National Night Out tonight.
   

3. Fall All Majors Career Fair Slated for Oct. 7 (uafs.edu) — UAFS students and alumni in Fort Smith can meet 40 employers and graduate schools at the Fall 2026 All Majors Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Reynolds Room. Attendees are encouraged to dress business casual, bring resumes, and can snag a free T-shirt or prize entry while exploring internships and full-time jobs.
   

4. Here's what you need to know for the annual food drive (5newsonline.com) — Fort Smith residents can support neighbors in need by donating non-perishable food at participating local Harps stores during the 12th Annual Give Where You Live Food Drive. Pre-packaged $10, $15, and $20 bags make giving simple, with all donations helping stock the River Valley Regional Food Bank and Northwest Arkansas Food Bank for families facing food insecurity.
   

5. German F-35 jet lands in Fort Smith for pilot training program (katv.com) — Residents in Fort Smith may have noticed loud jet noise Monday as Germany's first F-35 fighter arrived at Ebbing Air National Guard Base for an international pilot training program. Over the next five years, six German pilots will live in Fort Smith as instructors, joining pilots from Poland and Finland and deepening the city's role in global military cooperation.
