📰 News we're reading

1. Neighbors oppose commercial rezoning for Malvern Avenue lot (hotsr.com) — Hot Springs’ Planning Commission has delayed a decision on rezoning 2748 Malvern Avenue for a gymnastics facility and coffee shop, citing unanswered questions about traffic impacts. Neighbors say commercial growth and crashes near Lakeside School already make the corridor dangerous. The proposal will return at the commission’s August meeting, keeping the neighborhood’s future in flux.

2. Birding Festival of the South adds guests to growing lineup (hotsr.com) — Hot Springs will host the inaugural Birding Festival of the South October 8-10 at the Hot Springs Convention Center, featuring national birding personalities and music acts. Visitors can join talks, concerts, bird walks on local trails, and field trips around Hot Springs, with weekend passes at $35 and early registrants getting extra festival swag and full access.

3. Medical Group Settles CMP Case Over Facet Joint Injections; ALJs Overturn Claim Denials (jdsupra.com) — A Hot Springs branch of CHI St. Vincent Medical Group has agreed to pay $167,828 to settle federal allegations over how it billed Medicare for certain spinal injections. The case highlights how strictly Medicare interprets rules for facet joint procedures and how some hospitals are successfully appealing denials before administrative law judges. Local providers may face closer scrutiny of pain-management billing.

4. Terry McCoy, 86 (shoshonenewspress.com) — An 86-year-old Hot Springs Village resident, Terry “TJ” McCoy, has died, leaving behind family in the Village and across the country.
