Arkansas Primary Results 2018: Hutchinson To Face Henderson

The only competitive primary election this year is in GOP Rep. French Hill's 2nd Congressional District. Democrats think they can take it.

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Polls have closed in Arkansas and when the dust settled voters had made their choices clear: Democrat Jared Henderson will take on GOP incumbent Gov. Asa Hutchinson in the general election. Now the nation's eyes turn to the 2nd Congressional District, where Republican U.S. Rep. French Hill will take on a Democratic challenger who will be chosen Tuesday night.

Here are the primary elections to watch:

2nd Congressional District

Democratic primary: Arkansas Rep. Clarke Tucker won the primary election, beating teacher Gwen Combs, University of Arkansas worker Jonathan Dunkley and farmer and teacher Paul Spencer, the Bernie Sanders-esque candidate. Tucker, a graduate of Harvard University, was the frontrunner.

Republican candidates: Incumbent French Hill ran unopposed.

Governor

Democratic primary: Jared Henderson, executive director for Teach for America programs in the state, defeated hairstylist Leticia Sanders on Tuesday night. The New York Times reported he had nearly 64 percent of the tallied votes as of 9:25 p.m.

Republican primary: Gun-range owner Jan Morgan, who gained national headlines four years ago after declaring her business a “Muslim Free Zone,” lost to Hutchinson, the favorite who has strong approval ratings. The Associated Press called the GOP gubernatorial race around 8:30 p.m.
