📰 News we're reading

1. Community center's indoor pools go members-only Aug. 11 (mhobserver.com) — Starting Aug. 11, only members will be allowed to use the indoor pools at the Mountain Home Community and Aquatic Center, limiting access for residents who’ve relied on day passes and 10-visit cards. The city’s new schedule also shortens outdoor pool hours as student lifeguards return to school, leaving unanswered questions about refunds or alternatives for nonmembers at the recently opened, voter-funded complex.

2. Mountain Home sales tax slips in July, the city's first monthly decline of 2026 (mhobserver.com) — Mountain Home’s July city sales tax collections dipped slightly from last year, marking the first monthly decline of 2026, but overall revenues remain ahead of budget and last year’s record pace. City, county, public safety, and parks sales taxes are all tracking higher year-to-date, helping fund park improvements and operations across Mountain Home. Residents can contact the finance office with questions about city finances.

3. Art Walk goes national: ASUMH opens first nationwide call for sculptors (mhobserver.com) — Mountain Home’s Art Walk is stepping onto the national stage, with ASU-Mountain Home opening a nationwide call for sculptors and launching a Visiting Artists Series backed by a three-year local sponsorship. New rotating sculptures will appear twice a year along the James and Sally Moore and McCabe Park trails, adding to lighting upgrades and future garden plans that keep expanding Mountain Home’s connected trail system.

4. Suspect in NAEC break-ins picks up additional charges, has 17 previous felony arrests (ktlo.com) — Mountain Home police have filed five additional felony charges against a local man already suspected in last month’s break-ins at North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. Investigators link him to another business burglary involving stolen tools and copper wiring, and court records show a long history of prior felony arrests in Arkansas.
