1. ‘I looked up to him,' North Little Rock community remembers the loss of beloved soccer coach (fox16.com) — North Little Rock’s Lakewood community is mourning longtime youth soccer coach Chris Blake, whose decades of volunteer work led Mayor Terry Hartwick to declare July 23 “Chris Blake Day.” His family plans to keep coaching in his honor and is working on an endowment fund so more local kids can afford to play soccer.

Tractor Supply closing six Petsense stores in Arkansas (fox16.com) — North Little Rock’s Petsense store is staying open even as Tractor Supply closes six other Arkansas locations, including Jacksonville and Fayetteville. The company says Petsense remains central to its long-term pet care strategy, pointing to recent acquisitions and a continued focus on small and mid-sized communities.

Man injured, vehicle struck in shooting near North Little Rock (arkansasonline.com) — A man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting late Friday morning on Arkansas 161 near North Little Rock, where his Range Rover was hit by gunfire. Pulaski County deputies are looking for a cream-colored Chrysler seen leaving the area, and no arrests had been announced as of publication.
   

4. Jacksonville High School band director arrested for 2nd degree sexual assault of former student (arkansasonline.com) — A North Little Rock resident and former Jacksonville High School band director has been charged with second-degree sexual assault involving a former student and has been released on his own recognizance. Jacksonville police are asking anyone with additional information or concerns about other potential victims to contact detectives as the case moves toward an August court date.
   

5. Lonoke County sheriff's race down to Spencer, Behnke after Democratic candidate drops out (arkansasonline.com) — A retired North Little Rock police officer is now one of two remaining candidates for Lonoke County sheriff after the Democratic contender withdrew, leaving a Republican and an independent on the fall ballot. Voters will choose between Aaron Spencer, recently cleared of a murder charge, and Larry Behnke, who emphasizes his law enforcement background and military service.
