Arkansas police officer died saving fiancée hours after proposing, her mother says (ksl.com) — A young Rogers police officer who had just proposed to his girlfriend died July 18 while trying to save her from drowning during a canoe trip on the Elk River. The first-year officer, Fred Marsh, was honored by a motorcade through northwest Arkansas as the Rogers community and fellow law enforcement rallied around his fiancée and family. Loved ones are urging residents to honor him through everyday acts of kindness.

Fayetteville mayor joins national call to reverse SNAP cuts (4029tv.com) — Rogers’ Samaritan Community Center is already seeing sharply rising demand for food assistance and fears federal SNAP cuts this fall could overwhelm local charities. Fayetteville’s mayor and other Arkansas leaders are urging Congress to reverse the reductions, warning that working families, children, and older adults across Northwest Arkansas could struggle even more to afford groceries.
