5 CA Mountain Lions Filmed Together In 'Extraordinary' Footage
A surveillance camera outside a home in rural California managed to capture five mountain lions together — a highly unusual sight.

AMADOR COUNTY, CA — Experts are calling it an "extraordinary" sight: a home surveillance camera in rural Pioneer, Amador County, managed to capture five mountain lions gathered together Monday night.
Such a congregation is a rarity, according to biologists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife — typically, no more than three lions are ever seen together, FOX40 reported.
“Extraordinary to capture five together for sure,” Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Peter Tira said, according to FOX40. “There’s one lion that clearly looks to be bigger and larger than the others, so we assume that to be the mother lion.”

When mountain lions are seen together, it's usually during mating season, experts said following a similar gathering in Santa Cruz in 2018.
Chris Bruetsch, the Pioneer resident whose camera captured the lions together, told FOX40 he isn't concerned by the assembly. Experts agree: mountain lions usually want nothing to do with humans.
