Millions In CA May Get Surprise $68 Payments From  Class Action Suit Over Privacy Violations

SACRAMENTO, CA — Millions of California residents may be eligible to receive a payment from a healthcare provider from a class-action settlement over alleged privacy data violations.

Sutter Health was sued in Sacramento Superior Court on behalf of 1.6 million consumers over allegations it shared private data about its patients without their consent, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. In all, the Sacramento-based healthcare provider services about 3.6 million patients.

Sutter Health denied any wrong doing.

California residents who logged into the Sutter Health MyHealthOnline portal for purposes related to their own healthcare from June 10, 2015, through March 20, 2020 are included in the settlement.

Distribution of the settlement payments are made by check, PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, and more, and began Aug. 21. The payments will continue through Oct. 4.

Anyone who has a valid claim is eligible to receive a $68.81 payment.

Multiple Reddit users reported already receiving a payment from Sutter Health this week.

The deadline to file a claim for part of the settlement was May 5.
