2 Significant Earthquakes Rattle SoCal In 2 Days

JOHANNESBURG, CA — A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck near Johannesburg in Southern California Monday morning, according to the USGS. It's the second sizable quake to strike the Southland in as many days.

No damage or injuries were immediately reported. The quake struck at 9:40 a.m. Monday and was quickly followed by a 2.2 magnitude aftershock.

Johannesburg is a small, unincorporated community in Kern County, about 35 miles south of Ridgecrest.

Monday's quake is the latest in a series of significant seismic activity that struck California over the weekend, including two separate magnitude 3.0 earthquakes in Coalinga and Ferndale on Sunday, and a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Frazier Park.

The Frazier Park quake was followed by several smaller quakes ranging in size from magnitude 2.0 to 3.0.
