Brock Turner Appeals Sex Assault Conviction

John Tompkins, Turner's legal adviser, said what happened wasn't a crime, NBC Bay Area reported.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Brock Turner, the former Stanford swimmer who was convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman outside a campus frat party, filed an appeal on Friday. Lawyers for the Ohio native said Turner's initial trial was "a detailed and lengthy set of lies" and said they hope a new trial will help overturn his mandatory lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.

The case garnered national attention when Judge Aaron Persky sentenced Turner to six months in jail.

John Tompkins, Turner's legal adviser, said what happened wasn't a crime, NBC Bay Area reported. Tompkins said they're appealing because the facts don't reflect the verdict.
