Marian Regional Fire: Contained, Checking For Gas

A fire has broken out at Marion Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. Firefighters are working to douse the flames.

The Marian Regional Medical Center will be fully accessible once they confirm the methane leak has stopped.

The Santa Maria Fire Department tweeted that there were no injuries or evacuations.

The building that caught on fire contained methane from a landfill, which they use to help power the hospital.

Authorities are staged around Palisade Drive and Church Street and traffic in the area will be redirected.

Patch contacted the Santa Maria Police Department, but they did not have any further information.

UPDATE 1:23 p.m.

According to Twitter user Gina Kim, officials said the facility that caught on fire was for chemical storage.

SANTA MARIA, CA -- A fire has broken out at the Marian Regional Medical Center, according to a Twitter user.

"Smoke has clouded over the entire facility," she tweeted, with a video in the tweet of what appears to be the Marian Regional Medical Center surrounded with fire crews.

In the video, water blasts out from a hose atop a ladder, dousing the building.

Kim first tweeted about the event at 1:01 p.m. on Saturday.
