Late-Season Snow Forecast Closes Highways In Sierra Nevada

Authorities are closing highways in anticipation of late-season snow this week in the Sierra Nevada.

Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park was temporarily closed Tuesday due to the forecast, according to the National Park Service, as were state routes 4, 89 and 108 in the Ebbetts, Monitor and Sonora passes, with no immediate estimated time for reopening, Caltrans District 10 reported.

Elevations above 7,000 feet could see up to a few inches of snow, with at least 4 inches possible over the next three days above 9,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service of Hanford. There is also a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday along the Sierra Crest.

Passes around Tahoe may see slushy roads on Wednesday morning, according to the service’s Reno office.

Further south, Mammoth Mountain extended its ski season to June 7, citing the snowy forecast.
