A magnitude 6.0 earthquake was reported in the Pacific Ocean just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake was reported in the Pacific Ocean just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The quake occurred about 800 miles off the coast of California at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey.

As of Wednesday morning, no one reported to the United States Geological Survey that they felt the quake.

"... It could have happened on a fossil fracture zone—a place that had earthquakes back when this was actively growing, and therefore has residual weakness," Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones wrote in a tweet Wednesday.

A similar, magnitude 6.3 earthquake happened in 2012, Jones added in a separate tweet.
