2016 Reyes Adobe Days Highlights

Reyes Adobe Days festival drew thousands to Agoura Hills to enjoy California culture, past and present, at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site.

Thousands of visitors came to Agoura Hills over the weekend to join residents for the 12th annual Reyes Adobe Days (RAD) weekend festival, centered at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site. The four-day event featured something for everyone—senior fiesta, art night with beer tasting under the stars, certified runs, a free weekend family Day at the Adobe, and an equestrian ride through the Santa Monica Mountains. Over 275 volunteers helped put on the festival.

Grand Marshal presiding over festivities was animator Butch Hartman, best known for his Nickelodeon series the “Fairly Oddparents”, "Danny Phantom", and "Tuff Puppy". A highlight for kids was a scavenger hunt centered around his newly-designed app "The Noog Network". Hartman spent the afternoon at the festival, illustrating his many characters and meeting fans.

Featured artist Tracy Lee Stum created an adobe-themed interactive chalk art rodeo horse that festival-goers could “ride” and take a souvenir photo. More of her art, along with Hartman’s animation drawings was on exhibit in the Imagination Gallery. Over 175 patrons attended the opening reception on Friday night that also featured local craft beer and wine tasting with catered food from several local restaurants.

During the Day at the Adobe weekend festival, families enjoyed experiencing rancho life in the 1800s with activities that included pony rides, petting zoo, fiddling lessons, craft projects and old-fashioned games. Adults enjoyed more modern day fun in the Farmhouse Tent with artisan brew pub and shopping boutique, along with live bands performing throughout the weekend. Museum tours inside the adobe where led by docents describing life on a California rancho from 1845 to the early 1900s.

This year’s festival was sponsored by Agoura Dental Group. "We’ve grown with Agoura Hills, and are proud to give back to support our community that has trusted in our services for the past decade,” said Dr. Aaron Choroomi, DDS, who grew up in Agoura Hills and returned to open his dental practice and raise his own family here.
