Valley Democrats Back Osborn for Assembly

A coalition of 27 Democratic clubs in the San Fernando Valley announces endorsement of Torie Osborn in the race for the new 50th Assembly District.

The Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley announced Tuesday that it is backing political veteran Torie Osborn in the race for the new 50th Assembly District.

"On behalf of the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, we are pleased to endorse Torie Osborn for the new 50th Assembly District seat," regional party Chair Agi Kessler said in a statement posted Tuesday on Osborn's campaign website. "She won with a clear and strong majority of support from our members, and we plan to do everything we can to get her elected to the Assembly."

The Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley is the coordinating body for a coalition that includes 27 Democratic clubs that are wholly or partially in the Valley.

Osborn is one of three Democratic candidates in the race for the 50th District Assembly seat, along with 53rd District Assemblywoman Betsy Butler and Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom. West Hollywood resident Brad Torgan is the only Republican in the race. 

The primary election is June 5. The top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, will face off in the November general election.

On Sunday, the  held a forum with Osborn, Butler and Bloom. Osborn received 42 votes for the club's endorsement, 13 votes were for "no endorsement," five went to Butler, and nobody backed Bloom.

The next forum, hosted by the Pacific Palisades Democratic Club, will take place Jan. 15 from 2-4 p.m. at the Palisades Woman's Club. The Santa Monica Democratic Club will host a forum Jan. 17 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Santa Monica's main library.
