Agoura Hills Announces New Events for the 13th Annual Reyes Adobe Days

Centered at the landmark 1845 Reyes Adobe Historical Site, RAD celebrates California culture, past and present.

The city of Agoura Hills has announced the dates and new events for the 13th Annual Reyes Adobe Days festival (RAD), which will run October 12 – 15, 2017. Centered at the landmark 1845 Reyes Adobe Historical Site in Agoura Hills, the 4-day festival brings cultural entertainment for all ages: a senior fiesta; Night at the Adobe art event with local beer and wine tasting; Day at the Adobe free family festival, community parade, and 10K and 10-mile RAD Runs.

In celebration of the upcoming Winter Olympics and the 2028 Olympics coming to Los Angeles, grand marshal for this year’s event is 2004 Olympian Deena Kastor who won the Bronze Medal for the marathon in Athens, Greece. Kastor grew up in Agoura Hills and attended local public schools, graduating from Agoura High School in 1991. She is part of the school’s Hall of Fame, winning three California state cross country titles and two CIF California State Meet titles. “I’m thrilled to come back to Agoura Hills and take part in Reyes Adobe Days. Everything about the event represents the good life we are fortunate to indulge in by choosing to live there. It’s a privilege and I take the honor with the upmost gratitude,” said Kastor.

Throughout the RAD weekend, the public will have the opportunity to meet Kastor. She will participate in an interactive community art project at Night at the Adobe on October 13; start off the RAD 10K and 10 miler runs from Paramount Ranch on October 14, followed by presiding over the Reyes Adobe Days Parade, a mile-long procession of floats, bands, classic cars and entertainment that leads to the Reyes Adobe Historical Site and the Day at the Adobe free family weekend festival where she will sign autographs and present awards.

New rancho activities added to the kid’s scavenger hunt at Day at the Adobe are puppet making and shows, cross stitching, horno cooking and ukulele lessons, along with the free pony rides, petting zoo, face painting and magic show. For adults, the “Farmhouse” offers trending local craft beer and wine from nearby breweries and vineyards, plus booths of hand-made specialty soaps, candles, linens, apparel, and gift items. Headlining dance bands at the festival are Echo Boomers, bringing back decades of favorite music on Saturday and Southbound, a tribute to the Allman Brothers, on Sunday. Food trucks will have BBQ, Mexican food, waffles, Jersey Dogs, and sweets. RAD also offers free historical demonstrations and museum tours for the public.

The art gallery for 2017 will be a community-spirited, interactive exhibit featuring rock painting along with other displays offering creative fun and photo ops. The Night at the Adobe opening art reception gives adults a sneak preview of the gallery while enjoying local wine, beer, signature snacks and entertainment under the stars.

The 10K and 10-mile sanctioned RAD runs that Kastor will start from the historic Paramount Ranch western movie set features scenic courses though the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. After the race, the RAD Runs Corral has music, food and health expo or runners and families can head over to the parade and main event at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site.

“Reyes Adobe Days is a time we celebrate community and everything home grown that inspires us. In the spirit of community and the Olympics, we’re very proud to have Deena represent Agoura Hills, a former Olympian and role model whose athletic career continues to motivate and inspire us,” said Agoura Hills Mayor Denis Weber, adding, “and we’re particularly excited about the upcoming Olympics because we might see another Agoura High School field and track star compete.” Last spring, the city of Agoura Hills presented a proclamation to 2017 high school graduate Tara Davis who won three titles at this year’s state track championships and set a national record. Davis is currently attending college in Georgia.
