Agoura Hills Celebrates Release of History Book: "Images of America: Agoura Hills"

The Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council (CAC) announced it will  be having a reception for the upcoming book release of  "Images of America: Agoura Hills", a pictorial history of the city by local journalist and resident Susan Pascal with forward by California State Senator Fran Pavley. Published by Arcadia
Publishing, the book is being released on June 17, 2013 and joins the publisher’s 8,000 titles of  the iconic images of America series, chronicling the history of small towns and downtowns across the
country.

The CAC book signing and reception with the author is at the Agoura Hills Library on June 19, 2013.  A slide show presentation will highlight
pictures from the book followed by a fireside community discussion with Librarian

Nina Hull and Q & A with Susan Pascal. The book will be available for 20% 
off retail price with proceeds going to help the cultural arts program in 
Agoura Hills.

"Images of America: Agoura Hills" describes how the gateway community in the Santa Monica Mountains was first inhabited by the Chumash Indians and later became a well-known
stagecoach stop for early settlers heading west thanks to its accessibility to well water. In 1927, Paramount Pictures purchased a ranch and started making movies; hence, the town became known as Picture City,
having drawn the likes of silent film star Laura LaPlante (for whom a street was named), Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, and Claudette Colbert. The town was renamed by the Post Office to Agoura Hills after French settler Pierre Agoure. 

In 1982, the residents voted to officially incorporate the 7.9-square-mile

region, making Agoura Hills Los Angeles County's
82nd city. Today, Agoura Hills is a flourishing, family-friendly community known for its award-winning schools, lush and beautiful parks, biking and hiking trails, and burgeoning businesses. The area has become one of the most desirable places to live in Los
Angeles, yet the population remains relatively low at approximately 20,000 residents.

The CAC reception on Wednesday, June 19, starts at 6:30 p.m. The Agoura Hills Library is located at 29901 Ladyface Ct., Agoura Hills, CA 91301.  Refreshments will be served. The
event is free.
