Amelia Norris Joins Southeast Ventura County YMCA Board of Direct

YMCA has always been a consistent part of Norris' life.

Amelia Norris has joined the Southeast Ventura County YMCA's Board of Directors. She previously served on the volunteer boards of the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation, Guadalupe River and Park Conservancy and Loyola University of Maryland.

Norris and her family moved to Newbury Park last year from San Jose. "The Y is a community builder," says Norris. "It's a place that brings people together outside of school and work and gives them the opportunity to develop their mind, body and spirit."

When growing up in Baltimore and while living in the Bay Area, the YMCA has always been a consistent part of Norris' life. She even swam in the same Maryland YMCA pool as Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps. "I learned to swim at the Y and my kids learned to swim at the South Valley Y in San Jose," says Norris.

Norris says that once her family settled into their new home in the Conejo Valley, she knew she wanted to become involved in the Y. "My background is in organizational thinking and board development," she says. "I believe I offer an objective perspective on how we can support and grow important YMCA mission-based projects."

"We're excited to have Amelia on our board," says Ronnie Stone CEO of the Southeast Ventura County Y. "Her leadership skills and collaborative management ability will be great assets."
