Blog: LVUSD Plans to Add 4 More Portable Classrooms to Sumac’s Property

Mariposa's planned expansion - is it viable?

LVUSD wants to add 4 portable classrooms to Sumac’s property so they can increase Mariposa’s enrollment by 80 more students for the 2013-2014 school year.  They plan to locate these portables along the fence on the Eagleton side of the school, creating a wall.

Are you concerned about the traffic and congestion along Kanan going south from Oak Park to the freeway every weekday from 8-9 a.m. and again from 2:45–3:30 p.m? Do you care that 40 percent of Mariposa’s students do not live in Agoura Hills or Oak Park and must be driven in every day? And how will these additional students and classrooms affect the environment, safety, and noise in Agoura Hills?

I urge you to attend a Facilities Committee Meeting at the District Office on Thursday, March 28 at 9:30 a.m. Find out the plans they have for Sumac Elementary School’s site.  The District Office is located at 4111 N. Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas. Agenda is attached to this blog.

In addition, Fountainwood neighbors are forming a Task Force in the hopes of working with the school district on these issues. If you are interested in joining, or finding out more information, contact Mary Kusnier at marykusnier@gmail.com.

Mariposa’s rise in enrollment will not just affect Fountainwood homeowners. This is a quality of life and property values issue for all Agoura Hills residents.
