Blog Post: Agoura Football Team Defeats Oak Park in Thrilling Overtime
It was 'Friday Night Lights' at Agoura High School with a tremendous come from behind in overtime victory over Oak Park.
Friday night lights is alive and well in Las Virgenes Unified School District! I had the pleasure of attending Agoura's first football game of the season as they took on Oak Park. As I walked the campus with my family before the game, students were full of school spirit, painted up, decked out with Charger gear, flags, headbands...it was a wonderful thing to behold. The Blue Crew was in the house!
Students were grilling hamburgers, serving tri-tip, hugging and high-fiving. Principal Misel and his team invited the entire Oak Park High School staff over for BBQ before the game...a wonderful and warm gesture symbolic of the culture at Las Virgenes.
A few plays after kick off, the Chargers blocked a punt and returned it 20 or so yards for a quick six points getting the game off to a great start. The Chargers did not convert the PAT leaving the game 6-0. Oak Park responded with a touchdown drive and a two point conversion making it an 8-6 Oak Park lead. That score remained until the third quarter when the Chargers scored again to make it 12-8. That lead did not last long as Oak Park went on to lead 20-12.

With a minute and 22 second left it was gut check time. The Chargers had 50 yards to go to have a chance to tie it up. They stayed calm and drove the field. With 3 seconds left, they converted the difficult two point conversion to tie the game.
It was a nail-biter in overtime, but Agoura come out on top 27-20. Terrific game.
