Ventura had three turnovers in the first half, but unfortunately for Agoura, its red zone problems–something that concerned head coach Charlie Wegher in a scrimmage against Nordhoff and in the win over Oak Park–continued.
Twice Barmasse, who stepped in for injured quarterback Richard Poutier, was intercepted by Ventura defensive back Colin Austin deep in Cougar's territory in the first half.
In the second half, Agoura, which opened the season with a stirring overtime comeback win over Oak Park, was outplayed by Ventura.
Agoura was stifled by the Ventura defense in the second half. And the Chargers kicking game, which was strong in the win over Oak Park, faltered. The Cougars returned a punt for a touchdown and later blocked a punt and returned it for another touchdown.
The Chargers will play at Newbury Park this Friday night at 7 p.m. Both teams are 1-1 headed into the contest, which, this season, is a non-league game. The Panthers, coached by Gary Fabricius, were defeated by Thousand Oaks, 20-17, in overtime Friday. They shut out Buena, 31-0, in their opener.
