Blog Post: Freedom Service Dogs
Camp Bow Wow's "Operation Freedom Tail" is hoping to raise funds for Freedom Service Dogs, the non-profit group that trains rescued dogs as service companions for a disabled vets.
There are many worthwhile charities in the world, but one very close to the hearts of everyone at Camp Bow Wow is Freedom Service Dogs (www.freedomservicedogs.org), the organization that rescues shelter dogs and then trains them to serve people with disabilities. Each dog is trained to help with the specific needs of each individual client, which only increases the loving and therapeutic bond between canines and humans. And, for those dogs that can’t pass the comprehensive training requirements, Freedom Service Dogs finds them an adoptive forever home.
People with mobility impairment must overcome challenges for even the simplest life tasks – picking up dropped keys or a pen, opening a door, turning on a light, getting the remote control, providing balance to assist with transferring to and from a wheelchair, and locating and acquiring the phone in case of emergency.
Freedom Service Dogs has received numerous commendations, national press attention and government resolutions in support of their innovative work, but as a non-profit, what they really need is donations.

The cost of custom training each dog typically runs between $20,000-$25,000.
And since clients of Freedom Service Dogs are not charged for their dogs – the service dogs are provided free to disabled people in an effort to promote independence in their difficult daily lives – fundraising is an ongoing effort.
Camp Bow Wow’s corporate headquarters in Denver is launching “Operation Freedom Tail,” a special fundraising effort that will place one of the Freedom Service Dogs with Colorado-based disabled veteran Dan.

Dan, a Vietnam combat veteran who has been struggling with post-traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD) for more than 40 years, will be matched with a service
dog being trained with the funds raised by Camp Bow Wow.
From now until April 15, 2012, Camp Bow Wow’s Operation Freedom Tail is
accepting cash donations via the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation website (www.bowwowbuddies.com). The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation will also match funds dollar-to-dollar, up to $10,000 of the total funds raised.
If it feels right, help us to provide Dan with that special canine companion that will make his life a little easier.
