HEALING PET LOSS THROUGH ART – Memorial Paintings and Scrapbooking Therapy

I have been a photographic portrait artist for 30 years. I’ve had the opportunity to create custom painted pet portraits to memorialize beloved pets. I’ve attached some sample art prints and gallery wrapped paintings to share with my readers.

My guest blogger today is Claire Gillenson is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist and Certified Bereavement Facilitator. She is offering another way to use art in the healing process. She is offering grief counseling session through scrapbooking event in the City of Angels Sunday, October 9th, 2011 from 1:00 -4:00 pm

It is a heartfelt dream of mine to create a safe and healing way for pet lovers to complete any unresolved grief over the loss of a pet. Imagine the days of old and a quilting or knitting circle, people coming together to share while working on a project. Imagine a monthly salon where one creates a book of memories dedicated to our beloved pet while sharing with others who are going through a similar experience. At the end of a few sessions, holding a completed book of memories of your four legged friend, something concrete to read, sift through when you are missing him or her.

HEALING PET LOSS THROUGH ART

For some of us, our pets are not only members of our family, but souls that loves, listens, supports, understands us unconditionally. With them, everyday is a celebration. When they transition, we grieve deeply. We grieve in private. Sometimes we grieve even years down the road. We lose sight of the celebratory times in our loss. Here is an opportunity to cherish, celebrate and commemorate our love for them.

Come spend an afternoon with like minded pet lovers. Share the special life you had with your pet by scrapbooking, storytelling and sharing. Please bring photos or keepsakes you want to use in your project.

All scrapbooking materials, paints, will be provided.

Location: Space donated by Veterinary Cancer Group located in City of Angels.
