Resolve to a Green New Year

According to California Green Solutions, 49% percent of respondents said they would make a green New Year’s resolution and reducing household energy usage was cited by 75 percent.

If you decide to go more green in 2012, don’t let your resolve, dissolve. There’s a new online service, called Microsoft-Hohm, that determines a home’s energy use. By using public information about your home’s size, age and location, it then combines that with area data, such as weather and average utility bills for calculations.

Just sign up and answer some questions about your heating/cooling/lighting habits, upgrades, etc. Use your score to get specific recommendations on improving your energy efficiency. Basic measures could be simply washing clothes with cold water or caulking windows, and more costly recommendations might be adding insulation or double-paned windows.
