The Conejo Valley YMCA is hosting its 12th annual Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 24. The 5K run/walk and 1K family fun run/walk is held at California Lutheran University (60 West Olsen Rd., Thousand Oaks). The length of the races are short enough so everyone can get an early morning workout and still make it home in time to prepare for a Thanksgiving gathering.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Professional timing is provided for 5K runners. The 1K family fun run/walk is at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 8:00 a.m.

Proceeds from the Turkey Day Dash benefit Conejo Valley YMCA youth and senior programs. “The money raised goes towards programs that help community members lead healthier, more active lives,” says Allison Wilson, the Y’s healthy living director. “These kinds of fundraisers also enable everyone to participate in our programs regardless of their financial circumstances. No one is turned away from a Y program because of an inability to pay.”

Over 3,500 runners and walkers participated in Turkey Day Dash last year. It is the largest run/walk in Ventura County.

Awards will be handed out to the fastest runners in 16 age and gender categories—including those runners as young as age four and under to runners age 76 and up. Thanksgiving-themed costumes are encouraged and a costume contest will be held at 7:15 a.m. before the start of the 1K family fun run/walk. The top three winners for the most creative and crazy costume will receive prizes.
