Areté returns to the stage to conclude its second season with a concert devoted to the music of Leonard Bernstein. The program will begin by featuring the full ensemble in Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” sung in Hebrew and scored for organ, harp and percussion. Then individual Areté members will perform solo songs from several of Bernstein’s Song Cycles. The program concludes with music for the Broadway stage including two of Bernstein’s biggest hits “Candide” and “West Side Story”.
Areté is an innovative professional ensemble of vocal artists based in Thousand Oaks. The goal of the ensemble is to perform the widest possible choral repertoire including works from nearly all periods of music history with energy, passion, expertise and virtuosity. Special attention is given to contemporary, experimental, improvisatory, “cross-over” and ethnic music. Wyant Morton conducts.
