In a darkened church, the Epiphany Schola will present the service of Compline. All are welcome to be present for this beautiful and moving choral prayer service. The a cappella music will include Gregorian plainsong as well as music by Barnby, Blitheman, Hallock, and Schubert.
Compline is a meditative, ancient service that has been chanted and sung by Christians for 1,500 years. The emphasis is on quiet meditation and bringing the day to a peaceful close.
It consists of psalms, scripture, a hymn, a canticle, and prayers. Compline is offered when the work of the day is completed, and the quietness of evening settles over the hearts and minds of those who have come together in thankfulness for the blessings of the day that has passed and in anticipation of God’s gift of a new day.
