The University Symphony, under the direction of veteran California Lutheran University faculty member Daniel Geeting, performs Haydn’s last symphonic piece, “Symphony No. 104,” dedicated to the place where it was composed, London. Also on the program is the Czech-American composer Vaclav Nelhybel’s “Movement for Orchestra,” a virtual compendium of 20th-century tonal composition techniques, and Puccini’s endearing “Crisantemi” (chrysanthemums), a little-known piece originally written for string quartet but expanded to orchestral string section.
