The Consort Singers, Los Robles Master Chorale's 27-voice chamber ensemble, will launch the chorale's 2010-2011 season with a concert of a cappella vocal music, under the direction of artistic director Lesley Leighton. Performances are Sunday, November 14 at 4 pm at The Church of the Epiphany in Oak Park, and Sunday, November 21 at 4 pm at St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Camarillo.
"Introspection" will explore themes of life, heaven, and love through sacred and secular music ranging from centuries-old works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Johannes Brahms, and Michael Haydn to contemporary pieces by Knut Nystedt and Philip Wilby. An array of English and American folk songs will be featured, as will American spirituals arranged by Moses Hogan, Roger Wagner, and Brian Tate. Other highlights will include C.V. Stanford's "Beati Quorum Via" and a Slovak folk tune arranged by H.A. Schimmerling.
All ticket holders are invited to attend a pre-concert conversation with Leighton at 3 pm, as well as a post-concert reception with the artists.
