University Symphony: Gustav Mahler

Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) is generally recognized as the last great symphonist musically descended from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. The University Symphony will perform his "Symphony No. 4". This very accessible work features the multiple themes, intricate harmonies and extended forms that mark it as a 19th-century, Romantic period piece. The final movement features a soprano solo that will be performed by senior music major Kayla Bailey. Daniel Geeting conducts.
