VCGSRC Season 7 Auditions

Auditions are being held by Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Co. for their upcoming Season of The Grand Duke, Trial by Jury, and The Zoo, on July 1, 1:00-6:00pm and July 2, 7:00-10:00pm, at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Dr.,Thousand Oaks (actually off of McCloud). The Grand Duke, Oct. 5-21, 2012, is engaged to both a Duchess and a Princess, and is in danger of being deposed by a theatrical company. The leading comedian, Ludwig, is engaged but can’t marry until after the Grand Duke’s wedding that afternoon. The theater company manager, Ernest, is supposed to play a statuatory duel to gain the throne which would leave the Duke legally dead (yet alive) and all of his property and titles to Ernest, who would then give appropriate roles in his court to all of his players. By the end of the afternoon it is Ludwig who has won the duel, and finds himself engaged to 4 women! How does Gilbert fix this pickle? Trial by Jury, Mar. 8-24, 2013, finds a bride and her bridesmaids in court with a breach of promise of marriage suit against her former groom. The judge seems to have a bit of an eye for the bride, so how will the groom fare in this one act, the first by Gilbert & Sullivan? The Zoo, also Mar. 8-24, 2013, takes place in the London Zoo beside the Bear Pit, just outside of the refreshment stand. Two forlorn lovers, one Duke in disguise as a commoner in search of a virtuous lover, the object of his affection, and a retired grocer are the focus of this Sullivan without Gilbert one act. A long rope and the bear pit play an integral part in the fate of one them! Three fun shows, two rarely performed, await your talents! All roles are open. Please call 805-491-6103 or email info@vcgsrc.org for more information and/or an appointment.
