Fehmel Delivers Late For Chargers In Win
Agoura High takes down Taft for a fifth win in six games, with Fehmel driving in the winning run and recording a save in extra-inning victory.

For Brody Fehmel, delivering the potential game-winning run for Agoura High during Friday's Valley Invitational Baseball League game against Woodland Hills Taft wasn't enough.
The junior wanted to save the game, too. And Fehmel did just that.
He drove in Justin Cana with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning and ended up retiring the Toreadors in order in the bottom half of the extra frame to secure a 5-4 victory.

"Brody is a competitor, he has a winners mentality and doesn't like to lose,'' Chargers coach Dennis Reitz said. "Really, he doesn't make many bad plays. It never fails, he always seems to come up clutch for us.''
That was the case early against Taft as Fehmel sparked a two-run rally in the second inning for Agoura (5-6), which won for the fifth time in the last six games after opening VIBL play with seven consecutive losses.

Taft (3-10-1) jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Toreadors added a run in the fourth inning to tie the score at 2. Two more runs in the sixth inning and it was tied again at 4.
In between, Chargers' starter Jordan Shulman did his best to keep the Taft hitters off-balance. He pitched well until Cana relieved him. Corey Rohm took over for Cana, who ultimately was replaced by Fehmel.
"The pitching staff kept things close and our bats came around late,'' Shulman said. "It was a great game because we did the little things and found a way to win. This win was a confidence builder, a team win.''
The win might not have materialized if not for Fehmel. Leading by a run in the bottom half of the eighth inning on the sacrifice fly, Fehmel got Michael Colon to flyout. Jerry Barajas stepped to the plate next and grounded out. Fehmel ended the game by striking out Nick Gendian.
"Fehmel was lights out for us, he stepped up and did a great job'' Reitz said. "Does it surprise me that Brody delivered? No, not all. He's one of those kids that works his tail off and it paid off for him today.''
