Fireworks and Rockstars Come to Agoura Hills

Sunday's Concert in the Park will feature a performance by the Platinum Rockstars and the annual fireworks display.

Independence Day is celebrated one week later in Agoura Hills. As part of an annual event, the city will hold its fireworks display at Chumash Park, along with a planned Concert in the Park, this Sunday..

“It’s a great opportunity to see fireworks one last time before next year,” said Nick Newkirk, Recreation Supervisor.

According to Newkirk, the city has been having summer concerts in the park for over 20 years, and this will be the ninth year with fireworks. He expects a large crowd, upwards of 4,000 people, so people should plan to arrive at park well before the free show commences at 6 p.m. The Platinum Rockstars, a cover band of popular groups from the 1970s and 80s, will be performing.

After the band finish performing hits from classic artists like Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey and Bon Jovi, Newkirk promises that spectacular pyrotechnics will light up the night sky beginning at 9 p.m. “You’ll be seeing the quality Agoura Hills fireworks show that everyone comes to know and love,” said Newkirk.

They will last for about 10 minutes, he said.

City Councilman Bill Koehler expects the spectacle to be even better than last year. “Last year’s show was particularly interesting,” Koehler said. “There were new and different types of fireworks. It’s usually the most heavily attended concert (of the summer). Of course being capped off by a fireworks show, it should be a great evening.”

Once again, the city will offer a "City Walk," with booths featuring all of the city’s different departments, said Koehler. The booths will be staffed with city employees who will be available to answer resident's questions, and there will be brochures, handouts and interactive activities.

“It’s outreach by the city to make ourselves available to the community,” Koehler said, “and it allows community members to better know the people in City Hall.”

Koehler said that the event will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to come out to enjoy the natural surroundings, listen to good music, learn about the city and watch a great light show.

“I think if someone is looking for a way to spend a warm summer evening enjoying music, enjoying a fireworks display and best of all being free, I can’t see any reason not to attend,” Koehler said.
