Forum to Address Hunger in the Conejo Valley

Representatives from major social and supportive services organizations will speak at a Community Forum on "Hunger in the Conejo Valley" on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Newbury Park.

Who are the people without enough food, how are we helping them and how can we do more? are questions that will be explored at the forum at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road. Those attending are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food and personal grooming items.

Speakers from the Conejo Valley and beyond will describe the needs they see and how they are assisting those whose plight may not be noticed by many in the community. The presenters are:

--Denise Cortes, director, Lutheran Social Services Ventura County;

--Juan Cordova, vulnerable populations officer with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department;

--Susan Grayson, assistant for the Meals on Wheels program of Senior Concerns, a nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks;

--Jennifer Schwabauer, executive director, Conejo Valley Food Bank;

--Heidi Marine, director of supportive and adult services, Many Mansions Thousand Oaks;

-- Chuck Flacks of PATH Santa Barbara, where he is director of programs serving the homeless population.
