Patricia Baker, at 80, not only became the oldest American woman to compete in the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships, acing four national and world records in the 80-to-84 age group, but also took the gold in individual pursuit and silver in the 500-meter time trial at the UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester, England.

Patricia participated in her first road race at 36 and could hardly keep up with the pack. To up her game, Patricia cycled the 42-mile round trip to her pharmacist’s job, and trained on a stationary bike at home. Talk about dedication. Patricia won multiple races by the time she was in her 40s. Back pain, however, forced her out of racing for a number of years. But then, at 67, Patricia was diagnosed with scoliosis, which explained her pain.

Working with various trainers and different kinds of bikes (not wanting to risk surgery), Patricia was able to get back into racing with the incredible results she has now at 80.
