Registration Begins for New Water Polo Class at Miller YMCA

The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is taking signups for its new Introduction to Water Polo class for swimmers ages 8 through 13. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning January 5 through February 16.

Class members will learn basic water polo skills including dribbling, passing and shooting and an introduction to the elements of game play. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted. The classes take place in the Miller YMCA’s indoor heated pool (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).

“Water polo gives kids a great water workout while developing coordination and teamwork skills,” says Kara Kaplan, the Miller Y’s aquatics director. “There’s no other sport like it.”

The cost of the seven-week class is $45 for YMCA facility members and $100 for nonmembers (plus a $40 program registration fee).
