Summertime is vacation time! How can YOU stay in shape while having fun and traveling this summer?

It’s summertime! For many local families, summer means vacation – but this is no reason to let your fitness routine fall by the wayside. Stopping your exercise program for just one short week can get you out of the habit of maintaining your workout routine. So instead of forgetting it completely, incorporate it into your travel!
Below are four tips from Total Body Fitness to help you stay in shape while traveling.

Walk to your destinations. Not only will you get your exercise, you will also save money. Plus, you’ll see a lot more than you might from a cab, bus, train, or rental car. In some cities, walking will actually get you to your destination faster than motorized transportation
2. Do Bodyweight Exercises

Do simple exercises such as pushups, squats, and stretches when you have spare time. These can be done anywhere and require no special equipment. These exercises are functional and require you to use the largest and most important muscles in the body. Pushups and squats are great exercises whether in the gym or out!
3. Bring Compact Equipment
Carry portable or compact exercise equipment on every vacation. If you’re flying or have luggage or weight restrictions, opt for resistance bands and a jump rope – these things won’t take up much room or add excess weight to your baggage… and you can get a great workout on the road!
4. Take the Stairs
If you see a flight of stairs in your hotel, at a venue, or on a tour opt to take them instead of the elevator or escalator. Walking up stairs is a great way to work your quads and glutes, the largest and most efficient muscles in the body. In short, burn, burn, burn those calories!!
