Young Artists Recognized in Water Awareness Contest
Twelve students get recognition for their creative artworks depicting the importance of water conservation.
Twelve students from Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Hidden Hills were recognized as finalists in the annual Water Awareness Poster Contest at the board of directors meeting on Tuesday.
The posters were selected from more 2,600 entries submitted by students from elementary schools within the LVMWD service area.
The artworks encompass a wide range of expression–including watercolors, mixed-media, and crayon creations–all centering on the importance of water in our lives.

Families, teachers and school officials joined the students at LVMWD for recognition and celebration. Each finalist was presented with a personalized certificate of recognition and a T-shirt showing their respective artwork.
The Ann Dorgelo Water Awareness Award is presented annually to the school of the top finalist. Named in honor of a long-term LVMWD board member in recognition of her commitment to excellence in education, the trophy will once again be proudly displayed at in Calabasas for the coming year.

The top finalist, Liane Lee, also captured this honor last year.
Liane is a fourth grader in Ms. Brkic’s class. Her poster, a colorful watercolor, depicts two California otters floating in a kelp forest and states, ”You “Otter” save water. . . we all need it!”
The kids from Agoura Hills who were recognized include:
Alexa Ambrosio, from Mrs. Stern’s third grade class at School in Agoura Hills. Alexa’s poster shows a water conservation hero with a wrench, about to “Fix the Drip”, as illustrated in crayon.
Luca McDonnell, is a third grade student in Mrs. MacNish’s class at Yerba Buena. Luca steps out of the mold in his graphically dramatic and original poster. Using water colors, bright poster paper and cut outs, he created a collage that shows the earth and boldly states, “Water = Life.”
Ashley Rush, is a second grade student in Miss Wordin’s class at . Ashley’s poster grabs the viewer with its simple statement, “Water is Life” and shows an alert brown dog beneath a window with red food and water bowls, as he needs water to live also.
Julia Cunningham, a fifth grader in Ms. Boss’s class at in Agoura Hills submitted meticulously drawn water drops on a branching tree to show that “Water is the tree of life. Don’t waste it!”
All of the honored posters will join the artworks of past finalists on display at the water district’s headquarters on Las Virgenes Road.
