Abandoned Vehicles Hauled Away In Alameda

ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda Police Department reported Monday that it's hauling away abandoned vehicles, and shared a photo showing two that were picked up. The vehicles had expired registrations.

"In case you didn't know, if you own a (vehicle) that lacks a current registration, the Police Department can tow without warning (6 months or more of expired registration) per the California Vehicle Code section 22651 (O)," the department said online. "If your vehicle has a Planned Non-Operation registration status (PNO), it is not allowed to be parked on a public street. A PNO must be parked in a driveway or garage as it too can be towed. Once a vehicle receives a courtesy notice, the vehicle has 72 hours to be driven."
