Alameda Municipal Power Wins Energy Efficiency Award

Alameda's power company was honored for an initiative to switch households from incandescent to LED bulbs.

ALAMEDA, CA - Alameda's power company has won the top prize in a statewide competition focused on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) won the award over competitors in its size category for its Great Light Bulb Change Out campaign in 2015. AMP mailed two free LED bulbs to each of the City of Alameda’s 30,000 households. The campaign was immediately followed by an LED rebate program called LEDMania!, which essentially cut the cost of an LED in half.

“We are proud to be honored for our work to lower energy use and cut greenhouse gas emissions,” said Glenn Steiger, General Manager of Alameda Municipal Power. “As Alameda’s community-owned utility, we believe it’s crucial to partner with our customers on energy efficiency programs."
