Alameda Unified School District Hires New Chief Human Resources Officer

Alamedan Tim Erwin brings diversity of experiences to new role.

The Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) approved the hiring of a new Chief Human Resources OfficerTuesday night. The new officer, Timothy Erwin, will begin transitioning to his new position in mid-November. He will start full-time on December 1, 2014.

A veteran district administrator, Erwin has served as assistant superintendent of human resources in Newark Unified School District since 2007. There his duties included coordinating the department’s budget; recruiting and selecting new employees; training and evaluating new teachers; leading labor negotiations; and managing employee discipline.

Erwin received a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Holy Names College and a master’s degree in divinity from the Franciscan School of Theology. He worked as a Catholic priest and reserve police officer before starting a career in public school administration in 1999.

“Tim Erwin brings to AUSD not only solid experience in the field of human resources but a commitment to cultivating trusting relationships and mutual respect throughout our workforce,” says Interim Superintendent Sean McPhetridge, Ed.D. “I am delighted that he accepted our offer to join our team.”

Added Margie Sherratt, president of the Board of Education, “The board also welcomes Tim Erwin to AUSD. We are fortunate to have not only an experienced HR professional join us, but also one who makes Alameda his home. We look forward to working with him and supporting him in his new role.”

A long-time Alamedan who lives on the West End, Erwin has two children who graduated from Encinal High School and a third who is currently attends a middle school on the island.

“After fifteen years of leaving Alameda every day to go to work in another school district, I am very happy to be able to give back to the school district and community where my children have gone to school and where we live,” he says. “Alameda Unified has a bright future ahead, and I am looking forward to being a part of that future.”
